Naxos Yesterday and Today

This tour visits the mainland of Naxos.

Galanado is the first village we come across, outside of which rises the Bellonias tower.

First stop is the small village Damalas, where we can visit a traditional ceramics workshop and a restored traditional olive press.

We continue through the fertile valley of Tragaia and we stop at the village Halki with the interesting Byzantine church of Panagia Protothroni and the citrus distillery.

Then we visit the Byzantine church of Panagia Drosiani, near the village of Moni, a monument of the early Christian period with interesting frescoes, which is considered to be one of the oldest in the Balkans.  Next stop is Apiranthos with its marble paved alleys Apiranthos has 4 interesting  museums.  The Archaeological Museum, the Geological with approximately 2,000 exhibits, the Natural History Museum with the area’s fauna, flora and a small aquarium and the Folklore one with traditional fabrics.. Time for lunch at  the local tavernas.

On the way back, we visit Flerio, Melanes. The ancient archaic marble quarry is to be visited with the statue of Kouros and the archaic aqueduct.
